Looks like the 2008 HGTV Dream Home is going to be in Florida! Home and Garden Television has chosen a three-story clapboard home under development at The Shore in Islamorada at Mile Marker 85. Developer Ned Johnson says it will be the first tropical home to be featured as an HGTV Dream Home and was chosen for its elegance and “Old Florida Feel”.
The house is expected to be completed in September and is one of eight new homes that have tin roofs and wrap-around porches. They are being built along 275 feet of Florida Bay, Johnson says. The lucky winners of this Key West area dream house will get the ambiance of an older home but with the high-tech benefits of today, Johnson says.
This will be the 12th home that has been given away as part of HGTV’s popular sweepstakes. The show takes the viewer for a ride as it catalogs the construction of the custom built house and then randomly awards to one winner randomly picked from millions of entries.
The 2007 HGTV Dream Home Giveaway was a home in Winter Park, Colorado and received more than 41 million entries.
”Every year, I travel the country looking for the perfect spot for the HGTV Dream Home.” says HGTV planner Jack Thomas. “When I first saw the property at The Shore at Islamorada in the Florida Keys, I immediately felt that it was exactly what I was looking for, from the beautiful location and its amazing view to the town of Islamorada and its friendly people.”
”Add the house itself,” Thomas says, “and the combination shouts dream home. I couldn’t be more excited that the 2008 HGTV Dream Home will be at The Shore at Islamorada.”
”We feel it is a very unique project,” developer Johnson says.
